Milk....WHAT!?!?!?!

Those were my exact words at the allergist this morning when the dr. came in to read Hannah's panel of skin testing on her back. Her MILK and SOY were "non-reactive" meaning she shows NO ALLERGY to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I literally was almost faint and immediately hugged the dr. and felt nervous all at the same time. She said this is very normal around age 2-3 for a child to grow out of their dairy allergy and since her soy has only been an intolerance, mainly to her GI tract, it was normal to not see anything show up for that one as well-although we'll have to try and re-introduce that to her body as well. Since Hannah has had so many different issues and hasnt been 100% typical (wink face!), she didnt totally expect to see the milk not show up on her testing, but she was wrong!!! This is literally the BEST news we could ever hear, and is the best news we've ever heard next to finding out we were having to healthy children each time I was pregnant. Thanks to our Father in Heaven who has given us all the strength on the really hard days to find things Hannah could eat and for the patience we've all endured to get us through this past year and half of living with food allergies. We've prayed over her since the day we found out she was so allergic and God has heard our prayers and answered them!!! Now, we will be doing a "trial" period over the next 6 weeks or so. I am to start tomorrow morning giving Hannah one ounce of Whole Milk mixed in w/ 5 ounces of her Neocate for one week-only in the mornings and no other changes to her diet all day. Then, next week I'll add 2 ounces whole milk to 4 ounces Neocate in the morning. Then, after those 2 weeks, I'm to call the dr. and she'll advise me on what to do next. We both think she is OK now w/ the Soy as well, but we will hold off introducing that to her system until we get the Dairy under our belt fully and know she's ok with it...wow, just to type that is SO SURREAL!! ;) So, I'll update you all on how it's going in a few weeks, but in the mean time, please keep praying she'll adjust fine to the Milk in her little body and that we can be on the road to a normal life of eating anything and everything!!! O, one more awesome praise, she weighed (w/ clothes on) 21 pounds!!!!!!!!! That's another 1.5 pounds she gained in 3 months!! So, we'll see at her 2 year check up next month if that weight gain will put her on the growth chart for weight!! This might be one of the happiest days of my life...and little Hannah's, she just doesnt know it yet!!!

  1. So awesome Mere!!!!!! I know you are ecstatic!!!! Can't wait to hear how she likes milk! Lawson can now tolorate the protein in milk, but still not the sugar or fat- so we just give him lactose-free skim milk in his cereal! But at least he gets something!!! I know how happy a moment like this is!!!! YAY!!! Praise the Lord!!!
