Life Lessons Learned...Happy Valentine's Day!

This year the girls got to come downstairs to some suprises and a special card from their daddy asking to be their Valentine! (I had a friend at work give me an awesome baby doll and some pom pom's) that I had decided I'd give Hannah the babydoll who makes all kinds of noises and turns her head to look at you and then give Hailee the pom poms and a new, cheap little dress I picked up last week! Well, of course Hannah was ELATED with her baby doll...and Hailee, sweet Hailee, smiled and said thank you and tried her hardest at the ripe ole' age of 5 to act happy and excited about her gift. She was so humble, but Brian and I both knew right away she was disappointed with her gift compared to Hannah's. I was totally fine to acknowledge it and discuss it with her and let her know I was sorry she wasnt thrilled with her gift, but sometimes that's just how it goes. But her sweet daddy was really bothered by it after he left for work, he called to tell me she would have a new present waiting for her when she got home from school! I agreed...for a few reasons. 1st, because it was the first time she had not been excited about a gift and that was hard as a parent to see but 2nd, because she was so graceful and humble about how she acted and was well deserving of another gift! I just couldnt believe how composed she was and didnt cry, say she didnt like her gift, get upset, etc, she just went and sat in the living room by herself and eventually went up/s to get her own doll and came back down to play with Hannah. I took that opportunity to praise her for her behavior and did it in front of Hannah to use as a teaching moment with her ;) and when I finished, Hannah said to Hailee, "Sweet gull (girl...w/o the "r"), you can play with my new baby if it would make your heart happy." Tears welled up in Hailee's eyes, and mine too, and they exchanged dolls and hugs all in one sweet second.Wow, what a proud mommy moment...I know, I know, I should have realized that was the Lord working in their hearts, but I took a few seconds to think what I've been teaching them is actually sinking in ;)!! Nonetheless, she had 2 new polly pocket gifts that she had recently seen in the store and wanted and we had said no, waiting on her when she got home, wrapped in special red paper from her Valentine ;)
One very excited and happy little sweetheart...and the shock of not even knowing why she was getting another V-Day gift was such a sweet little lesson!

Hannah's new love!

Daddy, you are my Valentine!!
